About This Quote

This phrase is a reference to the story of the young doberman that was given a pill called “doggy duty” for its bad behavior. The pill made it impossible for the doberman to dream. It also made it impossible for the doberman to lie. Not only did it make it impossible for the doberman to lie, it also made it impossible for the doberman to have dreams.

As a result, this furry beast would not say no, but would go right along with everything asked of it—even if all of those things were horrible. In other words, there's no point asking dogs about their dreams because sleeping dogs lie.
